You’re right. Bush is the moron of the decade. Thanks to Olbermann for pointing that out, yet again

If you voted for Bush… stay home this time around, clearly you have no good judgment of character.

Bush vetoes the FISA bill, putting untold numbers of Americans at risk, because it lacked immunity for the phone companies… and your call Ubermann a moron? I see…

Stay home boy, this world is too complicated for you.

Why does Keith Olbermann hate America?

  11. jbrams on February 18th, 2008 12:21 am

Wow, great work Keith. They are scared and losing on all other issues so the only one they think they have a shred of hope is security so they are clinging to it … but the Demos stood up and “didn’t blink” as the papers put it. I was impressed, but the Republicans were SHOCKED!

And excellent work pointing out that this is the very definition of terrorism – using fear to force citizens to change their politics. I hope it’s Obama who gets to replace the Shrub, but Obama or Hilary – it will be world apart when the Democrats take the White House back.

Keep it up Keith, and thanks for visiting us on Daily Kos! occasionally!

Keith Olbermann continues to mistake his B.S. for truth. Why is this nutjob still on T.V.? It’s not like anyone really watches his show.

  19. Lazor on February 18th, 2008 2:19 am

It’s just incredible how the bush hate crowd deems every effort to defend America as a facist grab for power. Maybe Bush is just doing his best to protect America – God knows, we have had no more attacks since 9/11 – but no credit for that. Ask youself, whom would you blame if we had had an attack? Oh, yeah, Bush, right?. But no credit for not having one.

I know the dems have been out of power and want the presidency, but Bush, and the telecomms are trying to be good Americans and trying to protect us. Name one person who has been harmed in their pursuit of terrorist other than terrorist. Oh, can’t name one? But you assume the worst. Why can’t we assume the best? This whole partisan stand on everything is really getting old. Grow up!

  20. Lazor is a fuckin moron on February 18th, 2008 2:55 am

ever hear of Omar Khadr? The boy chrged without any proof at all? What about all the people on the no-fly list as they are deemed to be terrorists or unpatriotic. If you disagree with the Bush Regime, then you will pay for it eventually. The sooner this dumb-ass whack job is out of office, the sooner America can start cleaning herself off. Time for a new direction don’t ya think? Other than trying to frighten and keep the sheeple in line?

  21. Emil on February 18th, 2008 2:55 am

“Name one person who has been harmed in their pursuit of terrorist other than terrorist.”

Oh. My. God. You have got to be fucking kidding?

  22. Lazor on February 18th, 2008 2:57 am

Doplerman is an idiot. All you mind-numbed minions of the left blindly follow kooks like this. Don’t worry though, in spite of your collective mental disorder…there are big strong men to protect you and the country.

  23. brie on February 18th, 2008 2:57 am

Wow! Very brave and on the target, time to end this regime and start communicating with the world again!

  24. Anonymous on February 18th, 2008 3:00 am

oh, and of course there hasn’t been another terrorist attack on America, because all the people involved are now too busy trying to cover their tracks to come up with another great money making scheme!
grow up you say? How about waking the fuck up you blind-eyed, no good, half-life waste of space.
They call you Lazor cos that’s how you part your hair? Ain’t cos you are a bright one eh?

  27. JustMHO on February 18th, 2008 3:10 am

The report is factually correct. If you want to argue the points, I suggest you do it with facts–not slogans.

  28. Anonymous on February 18th, 2008 3:10 am

All you Bush supporters thing fascism is such a dirty word. As soon as you read it you disregard everything following and pass it off as crazy. Why? Look it up. It has a definition, just like any other form of govenment. Any you know what? The classical definition of fascism is scary-similar to our current industial-military complex.

So next time you read it and think someone is a kook, take a step back, think about it, look it up, and make an informed decision. It has nothing to do with patriotism or supporting our troops. Anyone with a heart should support our troops. But that has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with the government getting too close to big industry. Look at the size of the military contracts and tell me there’s absolutely no chance of corruption there.

  29. Bush Supporter on February 18th, 2008 3:21 am

You libs really turned things around in Washington. Since Pelosi took over the house we have a 20% congressional approval (lowest in history), the sub-prime housing meltdown, and the stock market in the toilet…good job! I know, I know, its all Bush’s fault…after all he is just one man and the kook libs have only been in control for a year. We wont look at that fact.

OBTW, if my only hope for taking back the White House was a Billery and an Odumbo…I’d be really pissed.

  30. Bush Supporter on February 18th, 2008 3:38 am

After studying you kook libs (and your mental sisorder) I have some therapy advice: Take a daly dose of Rush Limbaugh and heaping helping of Michael Savage. I’d also recommend any publication by Ann Coulter or Laura Ingrham.

Oh come on…where are all the kooks??? Don’t want to debate the point any longer? You usually react like a rabid dog when is the presence of a conservative. And the mere mention of Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter is usually enough to send you off the deep end? Perhaps previous posts have put you in a catatonic fetal position.

To snap out of a conservative-induced-coma, read any lie from Michael Moore.

    Yeah, that just happened…

  34. Clear Thinker on February 18th, 2008 4:11 am

If Bush was serious about protecting America from terrorism, he’d have his pie-hole sewn shut. His main play is fear-mongering. No one has ever been able to explain how killing a 12 year old in Iraq will prevent his dad or uncle from executing any plan they may formulate, nor how that same 12 year old with an IED is going to get it under a bus in New York City.

  35. Appalled on February 18th, 2008 4:16 am

Here’s an idea… forget the debate over privacy. Forget the issue at hand that is being discussed here. Keith did one thing that cannot be refuted. He exposed Bush for what he truly is, a liar. If you take nothing else away from this, if you even continue to thing liberals are idiots, please at least notice that Bush really does use lies and scare tactics. If you don’t care about that, then you truly are blind.

How dare you attack our President. He keeps us safe from the terrorists and the atheists. Even the great Britney Spears says she trust him and she is a fine outstanding young woman!

If you liberals had your way the US would actually have to listen to the Geneva convention! Why would we want to listen to the Canadians anyway!! If you liberals had your way the richest 10% would actually be WORSE off! How dare you even think of punishing the rich to give the poor a better standard of life!

I love my Bush and if you don’t you’re just a commie atheist fascist baby-killer! Long live the clan!

@Bush Supporter First off, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are both sacks of shit. Sure Michael Moore may stretch the truth a bit but he does at least tell the truth, your buddy Bush is a lowlife scumbag liar. I could debate it with you all day but the fact is that you are too far gone to be reasonable or even close to it. Ive tried to understand the conservative mind but I cannot. Conservatives are insane.

  39. TimD on February 18th, 2008 6:12 am

Keith is my hero. One of the few from the msm that has the balls to tell it like it is.

And who are these brainwashed idiots on here still defending this loser as a president? “We haven’t been attacked since 9/11″, “he’s keeping us safe”….whatever. I lose more sleep at night worrying about losing my job and home than I do about some crazies in the middle east. I worry more about how I am going to send my kids to university when they get old enough than I do about terrorists.

Bush has taken the events of 9/11 and twisted them to direct attention away from his lack of compassion for the average American and his passion to inflate the wallets of his friends and family. Fuck him.

And those of you still defending this waste of flesh of a president would be better served to educate yourselves a little better on the issues that face this country. It seems to me that these right wing crispies just can not fuction with out hating someone or wanting to go to war with someone. It’s disgusting.

    Go Keith!!

Really? 07/07/06 look it up. This occupation does nothing to keep the world safe and does everything to line the pockets of the top 1% with even more green.

The CIA had Saddam’s Ministry of Defense leader telling them that Iraq had no dealings with Al-queda while Bush, Cheny, and Condi WERE IN THE ROOM. We still went to war. The entire administration should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. If we’re to chicken shit to do it the the UN should do it.

Stand the fuck up, Wake the fuck up, and stop just thinking about the men you kill people with and keep telling yourself you are saving the USA while the CEO’s who run the country sell it out from right underneath our noses. The entire administration should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. If we’re to chicken shit to do it the the UN should do it.”

There are to many holes in the logic here to even mention them all, but first of all why should we listen to Saddam’s Ministry of Defense? Of course he is going to make that claim. If he said they had had dealings with Al-queda we would have invaded without hesitation, and we wouldn’t be having the current debate about our involvement in the war. The last time I checked Saddam and his government were trying to keep from being invaded. So, why would you expect him to say anything different?

Secondly, Saddam was trying to make it seem like he had WMDs ( So, by your logic there should be WMDs in Iraq, because Saddam wanted us to think it was so, and his government made up stories to make it look that way. News flash: people lie! I know I just rocked your world. It’s ok you’ll recover.

  70. Tim on February 18th, 2008 9:11 am

Excellent commentary by Keith as usual. And let’s remember that it is that, commentary. Keith does not run a news show, so don’t try to make the comparison. As far as opinion shows go he makes fair use of the facts on the ground and does not distort them as many other shows attempt to do(i.e. – Rush or the Fox “News” Crew).

  72. Tim on February 18th, 2008 9:18 am

Brian if you want to talk about a failing of logic we can do that quickly for you.

“There are to many holes in the logic here to even mention them all” – This is the called the straw man fallacy.

“. . . first of all why should we listen to Saddam’s Ministry of Defense? Of course he is going to make that claim.” – This is called guilt by association

“The last time I checked Saddam and his government were trying to keep from being invaded. So, why would you expect him to say anything different?” – This is called begging the question

I know I just rocked your world. It’s ok you’ll recover.

  73. tz on February 18th, 2008 9:24 am

And to certain people here who equate disagreeing with Mr Bush with hating the USA, you seriously need to get an education. A man (Mr Bush) is not our country. If he was equivalent or embodyment of the USA (and in your minds he is) that is dictatorship/kingship/tyranthood. That kind of thinking among many in this country is indeed moving us in that direction.

  74. Anonymous on February 18th, 2008 9:24 am

Let us confine the people who support GWB to the bottom of the country and the people who don’t to the top, give each its own government and observe which half prospers and which half collapses.

  75. Lleu on February 18th, 2008 9:26 am

Crazy how Bush wanted to speak to him until he did say what Bush wanted to hear. Why do you think that France and Germany refused to support the war while England did? Only english and American “intelligence” was saying that had had WMDs, and that’s because it was all falsified. The rest of the world know the Saddam was a joke.

Go read the Downing Street Memo.

  78. Brian on February 18th, 2008 10:03 am

Touche. I am aware of the most common logical fallacies. I’m not sure that I agree that I am guilty of the first two fallacy’s, but you are correct on the last one. Thanks for keeping me honest.

The first isn’t a straw man, I I don’t believe I misrepresent his position, but maybe we have different ideas about misrepresentation.

The second isn’t really guilt by association, but I see where you may have gotten confused. The Iraqi defense minister is a member of the group in question. The guilt by association fallacy is only present where I have wrongly associated someone with a particular group simply because he may share a similar idea with them. The Iraqi defense minister is; however, a member of the group in question (Saddam’s government) so there is no fallacy present here.

I suppose that the last is in fact begging the question and I apologize, but I think that the article I provided has some evidence that the Iraqi leader was trying to avoid an invasion. So, I don’t think my lapse here was a serious abuse, but I apologize anyway.

  79. Lleu on February 18th, 2008 10:21 am

Brian, if the head of the MoD had told Bush that they did have WMDs then you would be defending him as a man that did the right thing. History tells us he told the truth. The CIA was working with him and he proved to be a credible source. That is why they allowed him to meet with Bush and company. Your “he’s one of them” argument holds no weight.

The fact that Bush refused to accept his word as and cherry pick intelligence that fit in to his plan to attack Iraq should be more then enough for you to see that we have a man in office that is guilty of treason. They are trying to do it again with Iraq, the only problem this time is that the intelligence community as a whole stood up and release the NIE on Iran. Bush has tried to pass this report off as false. Bear in mind that this is the same report that he touted as true when if fit hit grand scheme. This time they took 3 years to release the report. In 2002 they took 30 days.

It completely baffles my mind why people are still defending this guy……

Brian, I believe while you may be aware of these fallacies you lack a clear understanding of their essence and nature.

The reason I argue that you presented a straw man argument is because of this, you stated the premise that, “There are to many holes in the logic here to even mention them all. . .” This is a misrepresentation because it does not provide an actual statement to the contrary of what your opponent has projected, nor does it provide an context of what your opponents are argument consisted of. Instead it represents his position as being illogical, and because it is illogical you dismiss it.

Secondly you are committing the guilt by association fallacy. You are confusing the definition of group. Guilt by association does not refer only to groups of people holding a common belief. It also refers to members of a specific group, i.e. – Saddam’s government. This is also an interesting point because of the large number of people in the Ba’ath Party.

If you gave me the choice of tyrranical police state, or another terrorist attack, I’d take the terrorst attack.
Honestly if we were to become a total police state, terrorists could still mount successful attacks anyway.
The last time I checked “land of the free and home of the brave” would be one of out “values”. We are acting a lot like the land of the scared and home of the sheep since 9/11 & anthrax.

  83. Brian on February 18th, 2008 10:52 am

I see your point about the straw man. I believe that I went on to point out the holes that I felt were present. If that part of the post is taken by itself, and it were the only thing that I had said it would be a straw man, but in light of the rest of the post it is not, because I laid out my objections. Now if my objections themselves were a misrepresentation then I assure you it was unintentional. I simply failed to understand what he was saying.

I’m not sure about guilt by association I will look it up again later when I get home, but he was, as a point of fact, a member of Saddam’s government. His job is to follow the party line. Now I suppose you could argue he was not doing his job, but I don’t think it is out of bounds to say that by the nature of his job he would have been doing as Saddam told him to, but I could be wrong.

  84. Tim on February 18th, 2008 11:12 am

Brian, first I would like to suggest “Logic and Contemporary Rhetoric” by Howard Kahane and Nancy Cavender. It is excellent source. This may help you avoid these problems in the future. Your argument in your post is actually not one complete argument, it is rather a serious of smaller arguments, hence multiple fallacies. While they may generally be on the same topic, they are indeed arguing at different points. For instance you first argue, where the straw man is set, that your opponent is illogical. However, this is not a proper premise, it is instead a conclusion without premise. This is because your following points are not intended to prove that your opponent was illogical.

Also, you may want to do some research into Realist International theory to better understand the purpose behind why Saddam would want the United States to believe he had weapons of mass destruction. The short simple answer is that Saddam’s possession of these weapons would alter the balance of regional power and create a situation in which the United States would be unable to act as the regional hegemon.

By the way, I’ve been trained in formal logic, informal logic, political science, terrorism, and international law.

  85. Brian on February 18th, 2008 11:18 am

    Thanks Tim,

I think you are correct. Sorry, they don’t offer much formal training in logic at State Schools like this. Everything I know I have picked up on my own, and not particularly well I don’t suppose. I will read your book.

My field of study is International Relations so I’m aware of your second point.

Anyway, I’ll do better next time.

fascism /?fæ??z?m/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[fash-iz-uhm] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation
    1. (sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
    2. (sometimes initial capital letter) the philosophy, principles, or methods of fascism.
    3. (initial capital letter) a fascist movement, esp. the one established by Mussolini in Italy 1922–43.

    So, for starters.

    1. President Bush is not %100 conservative, he DOES like a bigger Government with larger spending budgets.
    2. Fascism? really? Do they really think that President Bush (Or Vice President Cheney) is really a dictator? I guess they could think that way, if they forget about the three Branches of our Government. (Yes I guess you could still threaten those in the Government to do what you wanted ) But there are still those that “Speak out”. In a fascist Regime (like lets take Saddam for example) if a person said something He didn’t like, they were killed, they disappeared, never to be seen again. Well… I still see the same people posting Venomous blogs everyday, and yelling all over the news, so I guess they are not being silenced… 1st Amendment still stands.
    3. The reason for the 2nd Amendment (my own belief) is for our own protection against a Government that could go wrong… I know things could go wrong, so why does the Left try to impede, shoot down and make week the 2nd Amendment?
    4. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a Conservative. I LOVE what I stand for… FREEDOM.
    I. A Small Government machine
    II. Low, low taxes.
III. The right to bare arms
    IV. More small businesses
    V. Bigger Economy
    VI. Better World Trade
VII. Freely Traded Health care = lower cost of health care.
VIII. Reform of Insurance Companies and Health care compliance.
IX. An America where I can say what I want whenever/where ever I want.
    X. Worker programs to help those in Welfare to get jobs, to help our Economy grow.
XI. Fence of the Border and stop ILLEGAL immigration.
    XII. Stop ILLEGAL drug cartels.
XIII. Help those with Drug and Alcohol Addictions.
XIV. Stop {Family} Abuse (Female, Male, Wife, Husband, Child)
    XV. Promoting stronger Families
XVI. Promoting Knowledge ( College, finishing High School, Studies )
    XVII. Stronger Personal Finances.
XVIII. Keeping our Military the strongest in the World.

I can keep going, but lets just stop. If you have read this far, Thanks I guess… I really don’t care.

    To Lleu:

Thank you for serving this Country. We may not have the same views, but hearing all of the good news from friends and others is keeping me happy. . I have many friends that are over there as I type right now, many on their 2nd or 3rd tour. Thankfully I have not lost any of them yet although I know it has come close a few times. I would not call them War-mongers, or Hate-mongers, or Fear-mongers, I call them good men and women. None of them want War, but they understand why we are in this, they understand why they volunteered for all of this, they are not sad or disappointed in the choice they made. As a matter of fact, every single one of them thinks it was the best choice of their lives. They are helping Iraqi families rebuild, they are walking with the children to school to keep them safe.
Thank you again Lleu for protecting the innocent, for turning away evil, and for protecting the Best Country on the planet.

    Now let the hate flow…

I will not be re-posting on this forum, I have better things to do…

I would recommend attaining a newer copy. The ninth addition was very good and has recently stopped being used by many universities and is thus very cheap on I believe you can acquire a copy for under one dollar so it may be worth it to just purchase a copy. If you don’t want to purchase one I would recommend using the interlibrary loan to get a newer addition. The current is the tenth addition.

  94. Tim on February 18th, 2008 12:15 pm

To Right-wing Conspiracy, my assumption that you will not repost is that it is due to the weakness of your argument. You are attempting to prove that fascist only exist in a fascist government. The President having less than a 100% conservative rating is not an indication of his being fascist or not. For example, abortion amongst “undesirable” people was welcomed by fascist, though the President is clearly pro-life in all circumstances. Of course nobody here is claiming that President Bush, nor Dick Chenney are dictators. This is not a prerequisite to their being fascist.

Also, Saddam Hussein was not a fascist. He was a Pan-Arab Nationalist. The Ba’ath Party was a communist leaning group. In fact Saddam looked up Joseph Stalin, whom, in case you forgot, was not a fan of Adolph Hitler or other leading Fascists.

  95. Tim on February 18th, 2008 12:38 pm

I would like to clarify part of my previous post. “The President having less than a 100% conservative rating is not an indication of his being fascist or not. For example, abortion amongst “undesirable” people was welcomed by fascist, though the President is clearly pro-life in all circumstances.” This does not adequately state what I intended to say. Rather what I intended to say was that this was welcomed by Nazi Fascist’s, yet however, deplored by other Fascist regimes such as in Italy and Spain. Thus the conservative nature of this stance does not indicate a preference for Fascism or not and therefore we can not use a person’s conservative rating as a measure of whether they would be fascist or not.

  98. Tim on February 18th, 2008 1:57 pm

Brad you may have posted the most uneducated, ill-informed post thus far.Perhaps you should look up the definition of fascist, liberal, and socialist. Each of these are a separate and distinct political ideology. Liberalism being to the left, socialism further to the left and fascism being the farthest of the far right. Also, doing a commentary makes one an editorialist, not a journalist. That’s why these are called op-ed shows, and not news casts.

I find it hillarious that so many ‘staunch conservatives’ peg liberals as sheep, yet at the same time they feel that any of the slightest criticism of Bush is treason and that anyone who dares to criticize are not American.

What do you say of our forefathers and patriots who questioned the British colonial rule?

By your notions and opinion, our founding fathers would have been unpatriotic traitors.

There is something wrong with a population who will not question the “facts” given to us by a Government. In reality it is the only way to assure that any government is indeed following the rights and wants of the people and is not misleading the public.

Just because someone told you the earth is the center our solar system does not mean it is true. Sure that’s is statement that we all know today is false, however, at the same time what of Ptolemy?

I guess he should have never thought or made the assertion to prove that the sun was indeed the center of the solar system (aka, all plants revolved around the sun).

    ||God knows, we have had no more attacks since 9/11 – but no credit for that||

Should we credit him for the hundreds of years before 9/11 too? To this day, nothing practical is being done to prevent terrorism attacks like those of 9/11. The same type of attack made then could happen today, using virtually the same methods. The only difference is that the citizens are now more cynical and less free. As Ron Paul said, “When you give up freedom for security, you loose both.”

Rather than small minded insults, could you perhaps point out and site references for any errors you heard in this video? If not, then your words are worthless, like Bush/Cheney.

It would be a heck of a lot easier to be a dictator than work in a democracy. (1996 – referenced in J.H. Hatfield’s “Fortunate Son”, when Dubya was governor of Texas – date unknown)

You don’t get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier. (Jul. 1, 1998)

If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier… just so long as I’m the dictator. (shortly after his contentious victory in the Supreme Court that resulted in his becoming president – Dec. 18, 2000)

A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there’s no question about it. (Jul. 26, 2001)

It’s not a dictatorship in Washington, but I tried to make it one in that instance. We are beginning to see some success in opening up federal coffers for faith-based programs. (Jan. 15, 2004)
