Mitch McConnel is barely squeaking by Lunsford for the minority whip’s seat at this point in the polls. Elizabeth Dole is on the ropes and falling mightily after her recent Godless advertisement. Democrats across the board are doing very well and Barack Obama seems to have the advantage over John McCain.

Here are a few words that I hope we can purge from our vocabulary over the years to come:

“un-American” to refer to people who do not believe in neo-conservative ideas.

“Terrorist sympathizer” when referred to Americans who appreciate international law, diplomacy and peace.

“Godless” for anyone that doesn’t subscribe to the evangelical movement and right-wing religious policies.

There are many more words, but you probably get my drift.  I’m sick and tired of the propaganda that pervades the media and blogs of the left and right.  Hopefully, over the years to come we can all band together to continue the fight for liberty, privacy, and freedom from government intrusion into our personal lives.

To those who know me personally,  I stopped posting on this blog because I have a bit overwhelmed by the negativity that exists in the political scene and I simply needed a break.   That said, my disgust with American government and the two party system is enough to drive me to continue pushing policies and ideals that I hold dear.

According to the Department of Labor, new applications for unemployment insurance rose to 455,000.  As of August 2nd, this increase means that claims are at the highest level since March 2002.

Efforts to excuse this staggering news were minimal, with the exception of an analyst that blamed technological advancements intended to track jobless benefits as a reason for the higher than expected claims.

Scott Muschanny, a Missouri State Representative was indicted today for sexual assault of a minor.  The victim is a 14 year old girl who happened to be the daughter of a state employee.  The even more disturbing twist is that it seems he was romantically involved with the girl’s mother.

Yet another case of a Republican desecrating the sanctity of a divine union between a man and a woman,… with a child no less.   Quite pathetic.  note: Picture and full story at  STLToday.

Most of us are intelligent enough to know that “surge” is nothing more than rhetoric used for the purpose of supporting a failed reconstruction in Iraq.   Even if you choose to believe that the surge is something more than a word used to characterize a failing strategy in Iraq, the fact of the matter is that circumstances in Iraq are no better than they were five years ago.

Desperate Republicans know that they have everything to lose if Democrats wrestle power away from them in 2008.  This so-called “surge” that John McCain has tied himself to is the latest in a string of cleverly manufactured propaganda strategies that will earn him points with the party loyalists, but won’t win him any elections.

The lacking security aside, remember that the “surge” (TM) was not just a ‘positive’ way to characterize a build up of troops when America wanted withdrawal, but it also coincided with hundreds of billions of American tax dollars dedicated to paying off the opposition factions in exchange for short-term peace.

What purpose does short-term peace serve anyway?  The only purpose that makes sense is one that would help sculpt world and American public opinion on the matter.  Bottom line, John McCain has tied himself to a political theory that borders on the fraudulent and does nothing to improve our situation from a security or economic standpoint.

Even worse, we’re all at home living a lie.  Meanwhile, our soldiers are put in harms way and their way of life is a nightmare that none of us could ever truly understand.  Time to get rid of the pro-war bums and turn the page on Iraq.  One thing we must all remember is that it might not get much better than the current dire situation, but it certainly could get worse.

“The Surge” please, what a bunch of crap!

The GOP today seems more interested in pleasing corporate lobbyists than cutting government down to size.  From the Patriot Act to FISA, modern day Republicans have shown that they trust big brother more than any person really should.  This morning, thirty supporters of the Republican Agenda stood at Capitol Hill demanding that Nancy Pelosi reconvene the House to do the business “of the American People.”

That’s right, Americans are who these oil lobbyists are fighting for.  Heck, if we’d just allow additional off-shore drilling so our oil companies can make even higher windfall profits, the American people would get relief at the pump!  Instead we stall and make it more difficult for our oil companies to support Americans with a two cent drop at the pump for a few days!

The new era of the GOP is the face of corporate America.  Whereas the stereotypes and misconceptions regarding conservatives tended towards greed and self-interest, it seems that these characterizations have become a reality.  Hopefully the party will rebound and leadership will be seized by sensible Republicans.  Until that happens, we’ll have to continue witnessing the kicking and clawing of the neo-conservative leadership as liberals take the helm of the House, Senate and American Presidency.

I knew the moment that Rupert Murdoch snatched up the Wall Street Journal to beef up his media conglomerate, it was destined to go the way of Fox News.  We have issues so important to our country, including a catastrophic national debt, a mess in the middle east, poor public education and health.  Yet, despite what Barack Obama refers to as “the urgency of now,” the media wants to roll with non-sense theories about whether Obama is too thin to be elected.

“In a nation in which 66% of the voting-age population is overweight and 32% is obese, could Sen. Obama’s skinniness be a liability? Despite his visits to waffle houses, ice-cream parlors and greasy-spoon diners around the country, his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them.”

It doesn’t end there.  I’ve no doubt that the author was trying to write a light, fun piece on Barack Obama’s electability and wasn’t looking to provoke a serious conversation.  However, the message that the media is sending to the masses is that America is in such good shape — pardon the pun — that we have the luxury of discussing frivolous issues this election cycle.    Then again, when campaigns are engaging in the “who played the race card first” debates and promoting political ads that attempt to liken Barack Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, maybe I’m asking for too much from the press.

If you read through the article, you can see that there is clearly an agenda being laid out.  This article is about a lot more than Barack Obama’s “fitness” and whether or not a fat America will warm up to him.  Here are a few statements attributed to “Hillary Clinton supporters.”

“He’s too new … and he needs to put some meat on his bones,” says Diana Koenig, 42, a housewife in Corpus Christi, Texas, who says she voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.

“I won’t vote for any beanpole guy,” another Clinton supporter wrote last week on a Yahoo politics message board.

So beneath the superficial and ludicrous theme of the article in one of America’s most prestigious news sources, there is a bit of propaganda being subtly pushed.  Of course, for Republicans who enjoy neo-conservative leaders, it would be in their best interest to continue pushing the buttons of Clinton supporters to try and sway them towards their main man John McCain.    For the GOP, the best they can do is play on the prejudices of the masses and through outlets like Fox News and the Wall Street Journal to an extent, they can tell people how to vote.

Regardless of the strategy invoked, Barack Obama will be painted as being different from everyone else and his behavior will be declared unacceptable.  It’s sad that following a primary that involved intellectual thinkers like Ron Paul, Hillary Clinton and maybe even Mitt Romney to an extent, all we’re left with is a conversation about nothing.  I guess Seinfeld was able to make a career on that particular theme, perhaps our future President will too.

What the heck is wrong with ole George W.?   Can the man not go quietly into the night?  Shouldn’t President Bush try and keep a low profile and be glad as heck that he hasn’t been impeached or incarcerated for war crimes?  I guess I’ll never understand politics because it seems that Bush is making a big mistake by coming out and continuing the terrorist fear speech that has helped dip his approval rating to below 20%.

note: I haven’t posted on this blog in a while, time has been a bit tight.  I intend to pick it up and post a bit more frequently, thanks to my readers for continuing to subscribe and support this site.

Here’s a picture that seems more in touch with reality and world opinion.

 President Bush’s values and appeal to nationalism and patriotism are so much more in line with Hitler than any “terrorist-appeasing” Democrat.  Both men resorted to insisting on wars of aggression to deal with “potential threats”.  Both led a movement that divided people based on nationality, party lines and patriotism.  The men are easily among the most delusional we’ve seen reach the highest levels of government and that includes Saddam Hussein.

If you want a bit of more delicious irony, George W. Bush actually has ties (his grandfather) to Hitler’s rise to the top.   I guess the bottom line is this: Bush, no one cares what you have to say, please go to your ranch, get old and die so the rest of us can move on with our lives.
